Description The 5' and 3' untranslated (UTR) regions of the Na+ independent glucose transporter GLUT1 mRNA are highly conserved among species being embedded of several cis-acting regulatory elements which either stabilize or destabilize the mRNA subsequent to the binding of specific cytosolic or polysome proteins in response to glucose deprivation or to brain derived trophic factors.
