Description A highly conserved eight base sequence within the 3' untranslated region of the Drosophila Alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) mRNA, identified by phylogenetic analysis, was found to produce a two-fold downregulation of Adh gene expression. The experimental assay was carried out by in vitro deletion mutagenesis followed by P element mediated germline transformation.
