Description In eukaryotes the formation of the 3'end of mRNA involves cleavage of the nascent transcript and polyadenylation. Two sequence motifs provide the signals that determine the site of polyadenylation. i) the AAUAAA motif typically located 15-20 nt upstream the cleavage site (see as an example the TPM2 mRNA in the Transcript(s)/Gene(s) section below), and ii) an immediately downstream U/GU-rich sequence.
