Description

S-Adenosylmethionine Decarboxylase is a key regulatory enzyme which catalyzes a step in the biosynthesis of the polyamines spermidine and spermine. This step is regulated by a feed-back mechanism dependent on the level of polyamines in the cell. The mRNA of AMD1 contains an uORF encoding a small hexapeptide (MAGDIS) that interacts with the peptidil transferase complex, inhibiting the release of the ribosome from the translational apparatus.
